Weekend ideas #4 – Wannsee lake

Source: www.zehlendorf.de

This is a short note about visiting Wannsee lake, which is situated within Berlin limits. When it is getting really hot in the city – the best option to escape the heat is definitely visiting this beautiful lake.
This trip will take you only 20 minutes to go from major stations, for instance Alexandrplatz. As Wannsee is located in the zone B, you do not need to buy special tickets for that and can use your monthly card (if you have one) or a one-way ticket. You can take S7 train, but unfortunatelly BVG website does not show that you can hop on that train at Alexandrplatz.

The important thing! You should go off at Nicolasee train station, not Wannsee, as the lake is closer to previous station. If you miss that you will be returning one station back.

As you go out from Nicolasee station – cross the bridge over a highway and follow down the alley which leads to the park. Attaching a photo in case somebody might get lost. You should follow the sign Stranbad Wannsee and go all time straight (about 10 min. till you see the lake’s entrance) (Google street view link)

The lake itself is very nice and has a sand beach. You can leave your stuff in a a locker inside a building (not for free), or also use white booth on the shore (not sure if you need to pay or not). There is also a wild beach at Wansee which you can also visit in case you don’t want to pay for entrance, but in my opinion it is better to relax on a sandy beach but not rocky shore. The entrance is 3,50 EUR for students and 5,50 for adults without any time limitation.
The lake is pretty shallow, so you will be going quite a lot to reach necessary depth. However, the lake is really clean and it is a great pleasure to spend a day at beach. There are also a lot of spots where you can have a snack and frink, showers and everything else you need to have a comfortable rest near a lake.

Get inspired by some photos from the spot:

Hope you will not encounter this situation when you get there. So pack your stuff and have a nice weekend at Wannsee!
